The club

Plettenberg Bay Country Club has always drawn a particular kind of member: people who love the outdoors, who value a well-kept facility, and who prefer a genuine community to a transactional club experience.

There's no dress code drama here. No velvet rope at the bar. What you'll find instead is a club that's easy to walk into and difficult to leave — a mix of serious golfers and occasional players, competitive padel groups and first-timers figuring out the game, tennis regulars who've been playing on the same courts for twenty years.

The competition calendar keeps players honest. The social events keep members connected. The Foundation invests in the next generation. And the bar after a game keeps everyone coming back.

The club runs events across golf, padel and tennis throughout the year — from the flagship club championship to open-invite social days for visitors and non-members to come and see what they're missing.

A golf course is a living thing. The best ones are in a permanent state of careful refinement — not chasing modernity, but responding to the land, the weather and the feedback of the members who walk it every week.

At PBCC, course development is ongoing and member-informed. Current projects include fairway improvements, bunker renovation and tree management. Each decision is made with the long-term character of the course in mind.

The Foundation

Investing in people.
Building futures.

The club is more than a course — it's the staff and caddies whose work makes this place what it is. The Plettenberg Bay Country Club Foundation exists to invest in their families through education.

An independent educational foundation, it funds school fees, tertiary study and skills training for the children and dependants of club employees and registered caddies, and supports staff furthering their own learning.

Our story has already begun — with our first beneficiary, Charlize Titus.

Plettenberg Bay Country Club course
History

Deep roots.
Good bones.

Plettenberg Bay Country Club has been part of the fabric of Plett for generations. The course was laid out by Fred Hawtree and opened in 1977, when the town was still finding its feet as a destination, and the club grew alongside the community — a place where locals gathered, visitors lingered longer than planned, and sport became the language everyone shared.

The course layout reflects decades of careful stewardship. The trees that line the fairways were planted by members who never got to play under their shade. The greens have been read by thousands of putters, each one leaving behind a story.

It's a club that doesn't shout about its past. It just keeps turning up — well-maintained, welcoming and quietly proud of what it's become.

Nature & Wildlife

You're not just playing golf.
You're playing in a nature reserve.

The fynbos biome that surrounds the course is one of the richest plant ecosystems on earth — found almost nowhere else. Walk the fairways in the early morning and you'll share them with the Knysna Turaco, one of the Garden Route's most spectacular birds, and the creature that colours the identity of this club.

The lagoon is visible from several holes on the back nine. The Outeniqua mountains frame the northern horizon. On a clear Plett morning, it's difficult to explain why more people don't know this course exists.
