What's included in a PBCC membership? A complete guide

Membership at Plettenberg Bay Country Club gets asked about more than almost anything else. People drive out, play a round, have lunch, and somewhere between the 18th green and the car park the question comes up: what does it include, and how does it work? This guide answers that — clearly, and without the small print.

How golf membership actually works

The most important thing to understand up front: a golf membership is an annual subscription, and the subscription is separate from playing fees. Your subscription gives you member green-fee rates, two-week advance booking on the club app, and SAGA handicap and SC affiliation. You then play in one of three ways:

• Pay as you play — member green fees each time you go out.
• A pre-paid round package — buy a bundle of rounds (10, 30 or 60) up front at a better per-round rate.
• Composite — one price for the year with no per-round fee, for members who play often.

So "unlimited golf" isn't a default — it's the composite option, and it sits on top of the subscription. Most members start pay-as-you-play or on a package and move to composite once they know how much they're playing. Current figures for every category and package are on the pricing page.

The membership categories

Membership is built around how you actually use the club. Some people are here for golf first and last; others treat the padel and tennis courts as the main event. The categories reflect that.

What membership means, day to day

On a practical level, membership means member green-fee rates and the right to book two weeks ahead on the club app, with priority through the peak December–January period when everyone wants a tee time. Full and 6-Day golf subscriptions include padel and tennis (affiliation fees may apply), and members get discounted rates on coaching and in the pro shop, plus a club account and member pricing in the clubhouse.

Beyond the sport, there's the part that's harder to list: the monthly medals, the club championship, the social leagues and the prize-givings — and a clubhouse that's been the centre of Plett's sporting life for generations.

Handicap and affiliation

Full, 6-Day, Student, Junior and Dependant golf categories carry SAGA handicap rights and SC affiliation, so your qualifying rounds count toward your official index. Coming in with an existing handicap from another club? Bring your handicap certificate or Golf SA number and the office handles the transfer. Country membership (for players affiliated at another club, living 30km+ from Plett) does not carry handicap or affiliation here.

Before you enquire

• Decide which category fits how you actually plan to use the club — don't pay for full golf if racquet sports are your focus.
• For golf, think about whether pay-as-you-play, a round package, or composite suits how often you'll play.
• Ask about spousal (15%) and senior (20%, age 70+ with 10+ years' membership) discounts if they apply to you.
• Junior and dependant rates are well worth it if your kids play — get them on the books early.
