Tennis has been part of Plettenberg Bay Country Club for longer than most members can remember — and it remains one of the most consistent reasons people come back. Whether you're a regular looking for a reliable game while you're on the Garden Route, or you haven't picked up a racquet since school, the courts at PBCC are waiting. Here's how it works.
The courts
PBCC has four all-weather hard courts, resurfaced in 2025, on the sheltered southern side of the property — positioned to play through all but the wildest Garden Route weather, and floodlit for evening sessions. The surface plays true and fast, the light is good, and the standard of play is high enough to push you without embarrassing you. Courts are open seven days a week, morning to evening.
Coaching — the Olsen Tennis Academy
Coaching at PBCC runs through the Olsen Tennis Academy, one of the most active coaching operations on the Garden Route. Luke Olsen and his team run structured programmes for juniors and adults — from first-timers through to competitive players preparing for league and interprovincial fixtures. The academy also drives a long-running development programme with a local school, which is part of why the club's junior membership is so strong. Members here range from age 10 to 89.

Competition and social play
There's plenty to play for. The calendar runs Club Champs, the 180 and 240 leagues, inter-club, interprovincial and regional fixtures — enough competition to keep you honest, and a bar afterwards to keep you coming back. Saturday social tennis from 13:30 is one of the easiest ways to get a game if you're new to the club or visiting on your own.
Booking and visitor fees
Courts are booked online via OpenActive (also on the Android app) — no key needed, staff are on site to open up. Visitors are welcome: singles are R80, doubles R40 per person (60 minutes), and Saturday social from 13:30 is R80. Members receive priority booking and discounted court rates year-round.
